The 53 Again

Lets take another look again, given how things are now shaping up.

Offense - 26

QB (3) - McNabb, Kolb, Feeley

RB (3) - Westbrook, Buckhalter, Booker

FB (2) - Davis, Lawton

WR (6) - Curtis, Brown, Baskett, Avant, Lewis, Jackson

TE (3) - Smith, Celek, Schobel

OL (9) - Thomas, Herremanns, Jackson, Andrews, Runyan, Justice, McGlynn, Jean-Gilles, Dunlap

Defense - 24

DE (5) - Cole, Parker, Clemmons, Howard, Smith

DT (4) - Patterson, Bunkley, Laws, Klecko

LB (6) - Gocong, Bradley, Gaither, Boiman, Jordan, Mays

S (5) - Dawkins, Mikell, Considine, Reed, Demps

CB (4) - Samuel, Sheppard, Brown, Hanson

Special Teams - 3

Akers, Rocca, Dorenbos

Injured Reserve - 2

Abiamiri, Ikegwuono

Notables On the Cutting Room Floor

Moats, Hunt, Wilson, Young, Studebaker, Togafau, Reagor, von Oelhoffen, Cole, Paschal, Graham, Gibson, Childress

Either Davis or Lawton can do what little Tony Hunt did last year.  Both are way higher up the depth chart then him (he's not even on it), and both can also play Fullback.  I just get the sense that even if Davis wins the FB starting job, Lawton will get kept as a special teams/fullback/big running back role, as the Eagles always keep 5 running backs/fullbacks, either in a 4/1 or 3/2 split.  Its entirely possible one of the wideouts like Lewis or Avant gets traded or cut and an additional D or O lineman or linebacker or DB gets added to the roster, a bubble guy like Cole, Graham, Reagor, or Studebaker.  Season ending injuries to anyone on the list above also opens the door up to the guys on the cutting room floor.  Outstanding play from a UFA like Collins, McBride, Roland, and a causal attitude from someone who thought they had a spot locked up (like Jabar Gaffney a couple of years ago) could also make a bottom of the roster shift.

The inactive 8 with the above roster would initially be 1 QB, 1 RB/FB, 1 WR, 1 OL, 1 OL or TE, 1 LB, 1 DE, 1 S.

Are you tire of Lito like me?

Is it just me, or are you getting tired of Lito's crying as well. I keep reading stories on how unhappy he is. These stories really bug me. I want to see this team succeed, and I feel that they have a nice team in place. Then Mr Sheppard begins to flap his gums about his contract, it makes me sick.

Its seems like no one cares about the team, only the fans. Mr Sheppard bothers me the most, because he seems to think he is the greatest thing since sliced bread. But I keep reading how no one wanted to trade for him, i even read from a previous post that the GMs don't even like him. So Lito is really thinking a little too much of himself. I read in Jason's post how he doesn't like his job, maybe he should retire and work a 9-5 and let someone else play nickle back. I bet you any player in the AFL and Canada would give their right kidney to be in his position, or even just to be the last man on the roster. Any way, I wish this clown would just clam up already.

Also, check out my photo of Lito, I made this over lunch since I was sooo mad. Please tell what you think of Lito or my Lito picture...Thanks

Jet Favre?!

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/trainingcamp08/news/story?id=3522971

The Brett Favre era in Green Bay officially came to an end late Wednesday night as the longtime Packers star quarterback was traded to the New York Jets, the Packers announced.

The exact compensation wasn't immediately available, but it is believed to be a fourth-round draft pick that increases in value depending upon how the Jets perform during the 2008 season.

Good for the Jets, bad for him. Who wants to play the Patriots twice a year on a subpar team? Good news for him is the Jets have made some improvements (other than the obvious upgrade at QB) but I still have a hard time placing the Jets in the playoffs at this point. Looks like Joe Montana II. We'll see. Speculation is pointless, so let it begin!

I've been a while...

In a land of limited internets - where the connections really are like a series of tubes...

I go away and come back to a training camp in full swing.  Much better than the early part of July I dare say.  Here are my quick takes about what I've caught up on so far.

First off, Westbrook's contract situation:  Westy has a legit beef.  If you read the PFP, the numbers the Football Outsiders guys crunch suggest that BWest really was the best back in the NFL last year.  I've long felt that he deserved a raise, perhaps not 30mil guaranteed, but a raise would be more than appropriate.  I think Derek has a really sound idea, too bad he isn't the Eagles front office and Brian's agent.

Secondly, Shawn Andrews - Man.  Take your time and get better.

Next, Victor Abiamiri and Chris Clemons.  Darren Howard?  Anyone?   I was pretty confident that the backup long snapper would make the team before I left.  Now- I'm damn near certain.  I suppose I'm in the minority, but for some reason, I like the guy and I like the effort (I perceive) he's put in during the offseason.  I like his versatility - DE/DT - I suspect he makes the team at the cost of Montae Reagor.  I actually am not too worried about Vic's injury.  We all know that JP was going to make the team and we also know that he has a history of being somewhat tired in the second half of the season, right when Abiamiri should be coming back to full strength.

Around the league.

  • I have one request - WILL SOMEONE PLEASE PUT AN END TO THE BRETT FAVRE MELODRAMA.  I had really hoped that storyline would be finished by now.
  • Jason Taylor a Skin - Thanks Dan.
  • Shockey a Saint?  Sweet.

Finally, speaking of the Pro Football Prospectus, what a tremendous ally on a long airplane flight.  It's interesting enough to while away the moments you're awake, and there are enough statistics to help you fall asleep with ease.  I absolutely recommend it to anyone with a long commute and people who just can't get enough of the numbers behind the game.

It's good to be back - I'm looking forward to watching some bad football played by young players on Friday.

New Fan conduct code

I found this on ESPN.com today. They are taking all the fun out for us Eagles fans. Now what are we supposed to do at Cowboy games now!

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3520559

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

NEW YORK -- The NFL implemented a new code of fan conduct Tuesday, warning that spectators who misbehave will be ejected from stadiums and barred from coming back.

The policy, first recommended by commissioner Roger Goodell at league meetings in April, is aimed at conduct that the league said "detracts from the gameday experience."

It includes bans on:

• Behavior that is unruly, disruptive, or illegal.

• Drunkenness and signs of alcohol impairment that result in irresponsible behavior.

• Foul or abusive language or obscene gestures.

• Interference with the progress of the game, including throwing objects onto the field.

• Failing to follow instructions of stadium personnel.

• Verbal or physical harassment of fans from the opposing team.

"The in-stadium experience is critically important to the NFL, our clubs and our fans and it will be a major focus this season," Goodell said in a statement. "We are committed to improving the fan experience in every way we can -- from the time fans arrive in the parking lot to when they depart the stadium."

The league also left teams the option of adding additional provisions to the code based on local circumstances. It said the guidelines would be contained in mailings to fans and signs posted at stadiums.

Need a little help...

Most of you might remember the video i made last year. Well lovely youtube deleted a few months later due to copyright enfringement... anyway my comp ended up crashing and i lost the actual copy of that. Sucks!!!

Anyway I'm trying to build a new one for this coming season. But the only major holdback is i'm having a terrible time coming up with video from last season that is in good resolution. Does anyone have any? I'd be willing to pay for it.

I have a really nice idea... but unless i get some new video, it'll look a lot like last years... :(

Victor Abiamiri out for some time

It is clear that Abiamiri may be out to close to 4 months due to the fact that screws were needed to repair his wrist. What does this mean for he defense? Does McDougle get his final chance? Is Darren Howard going to fill in that End spot? Does Juqua Parker start now? Or will the Eagles pursue an end in a trade?

This is definately not good new for the Eagles, its too soon in camp to see Jackson, Samuels be sidelined with hammies and Abiamiri out indefinately with wrist problems and Clemmons suffering severe dehydration.

Whats do you think will be the best fix for this Defense end situation?
